Yellowjackets Skate to a Tie against UW-Stevens Point

Box Score

Yellowjackets 2, UW-Stevens Point 2

The Yellowjacket women's hockey team was in action Saturday afternoon looking to take their second in a row from WIAC foe UW-Stevens Point. When it was all said and done, these two teams skated to a hard fought tie.

After a scoreless first period, the offense started to heat up for both teams in the second.

The Pointers were able to draw first blood in this matchup. At 4:20 Amanda Coey (Brandon, Manitoba/Crocus Plains) was whistled for tripping, giving UW-Stevens Point the man-advantage. They were able to capitalize, as Ali Biagini found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Pointers at the 5:25 mark.

The Yellowjackets were able to strike back, when Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) beat the Pointer goalie for her sixth of the year at 18:23. Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba) and Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) assisted on the even strength tally.

Another scoring opportunity came up less than a minute later. UW-Stevens Point's Betsy Anderson was called for interference at the 18:47 mark, putting the Yellowjackets on the power play. They took advantage as Leah Elledge (Champlin Park, Minn./Champlin Park) netted her fifth of the year at the 19:00 mark. Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) and Emily Heid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) assisted on the goal that gave the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead.

The lead would not last however, as the Pointers scored 9:17 into third. The Ellie Punnett goal tied up the game at 2-2. This score would hold through the rest of the period and the overtime session.

Natasha Singer (Kimberley, British Columbia/Warner) made her third straight start in goal for the Yellowjackets, allowing two goals while making 33 saves. Singer is now 1-0-2 on the season.

Sydney Conley started in goal for the Pointers, allowing two goals while making 20 saves.

The Yellowjackets were 1-3 on the power play. UW-Stevens Point was 1-4.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (4-3-3, 1-1-2 WIAC) is a non-conference matchup against Augsburg College Tuesday, November 24. Game time from Wessman Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
