Yellowjackets Down Augsburg

Box Score

Yellowjackets 2, Augsburg 1

The Yellowjacket women's hockey team was in action Tuesday, facing off against Augsburg College. After taking three points from UW-Stevens Point over the weekend, the Yellowjackets were looking to continue their strong play on short rest.

After a scoreless first period, both teams found their offense stride in the second.

The first goal of the game belonged to the Auggies. After Pamela McLeod (Gillam, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall Prep) was sent to the penalty box for a slashing penalty Augsburg's offense started to find their groove. Auggie Forward Darby Lindgren sent four straight shots at the Yellowjacket net, with the fourth find its mark at 13:36 into the second. Megan Robertson assisted on the goal.

The Yellowjackets wasted little time coming up with a goal of their own. Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) fired a shot that hit the pipe and bounced perfectly to Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park), who fired the puck top shelf to tie the game up 1-1 at 14:14. Cragg and Leah Elledge (Champlin Park, Minn./Champlin Park) got the assists on the even strength goal.

Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba) put the Yellowjackets ahead for good early in the third period with her sixth goal of the season. This game winning goal was eerily similar to the first, as Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) to a shot that Auggie goaltender Erika Allen saved, only to have it bounce perfectly to Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba), who buried a shot top shelf to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead 0:59 into the period. Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) and Amanda Coey (Brandon, Manitoba/Crocus Plains) assisted on what would turn out to be the game winning goal.

Natasha Singer (Kimberley, British Columbia/Warner) made her fourth consecutive start in goal for the Yellowjackets, allowing one goal while making 28 saves. She is now 2-0-2 on the season.

Allen made the start in goal for the Auggies, allowing two goals while making 33 saves.

The Yellowjackets were never on the power play this game, while the Auggies were 1-4 on the power play.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (5-3-3, 1-1-2 WIAC) is a home-and-home series beginning Friday, December 4 in Superior against WIAC foe UW-River Falls. Game time from Wessman Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
