SUPERIOR, Wis. (January 28, 2018) – Superior made history Sunday afternoon, recording their first points in both singles and doubles matches, but couldn't pull out the victory vs the Concordia Cobbers.
Doubles
The first point win came when the No. 1 team of Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) beat the Cobbers 8-3 with confidence. The other two doubles teams could not pull out the points, but they did put up game wins, falling 8-3, 8-4.
Singles
The second point for the Yellowjackets came in the No. 2 position and Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo), who won 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, pulling out the nail-biting tiebreaker. The other singles matches were also close, as five matches went to a third tiebreaker set, including a 3-6, 6-4, 14-12 effort from Linder, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 from Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert), and 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 from Tollas.
Even in the loss, the 'Jackets proved they could play, after getting the first-match jitters out of the way.
