Lakeland 5, UW-Superior 4

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (March 25, 2018) – Superior faced a tough Muskie team Sunday morning, falling to Lakeland University by just one point.

Doubles

The Yellowjackets found two of their wins in doubles; Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) took care of business in the no. 1 position, beating their opponents, while the no. 2 duo of Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) also won their match.

Singles

The toughest battle of the day came in the singles matches. Wald found a victory in the no. 2 overall position, beating Muskie Ann Schroeder 6-0 and 6-3. The other 'Jacket to get a win was Youmei Li (Ganzhou, China/Ganzhou) in the no. 6 position, winning in a tie-breaker set 6-2, 2-6, and finally 10-7.

Head coach Kolin Dean saw great fight in the Yellowjackets today. "The women showed a lot of heart today and didn't throw in the towel. It's always tough to lose the close ones."

Superior will take two weeks off, hoping that the snow is melted by April 7 when they play the UW-Stout Blue Devils at home around 12 p.m.
