OWATONNA, Minn. (April 25, 2018) – It was a hard-fought battle Wednesday afternoon, but Superior returned to form with a great win over Martin Luther. Â
Doubles
Superior took one of the three doubles matchups with the Knights as Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) grabbed an 8-1 victory over Morgan Shevey and Rachel Schewe.
Singles
Superior played behind to start the singles matches, falling in the no. 1 and no. 2 positions. Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) would come out of the no. 3 spot with 6-2 and 6-0 wins; Honkola posted the same score in the no. 5 spot for the victory.
Charlotte Zangs (Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) would get a solid 6-4 and 6-2 win in the no. 6 position, and Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) would come out on top with a 6-4 set, 3-6 set, and a 10-1 tiebreaker for the last 'Jacket win.
"For our fifth match in six days, I'm very proud of our effort today. Nobody quit and it resulted in a hard-fought victory!" Head coach Kolin Dean said.
The win pushes the Yellowjackets to the postseason, the first in program history.
