ST. PETER, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's tennis team closed its stay in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Sunday as freshmen Vitor Sakakibara (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Saber) and Mateus Miranda Silvestre (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Torricelli) played in the semifinal round of the Midwest Open.
 
The pair faced off against Henry Kruse and Jakub Belik of St. Olaf, dropping an 8-5 decision.
 
Sakakibara and Miranda Silvestre finished the tournament 4-1 in doubles play.
 
The Yellowjackets' dual-match season begins Saturday, Feb. 4 against Macalester at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
