AUSTIN, Texas – UW-Superior junior forward
Niya Wilson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was named to the 2022 Division III CSC Academic All-America® women's soccer third team selected by College Sports Communicators and announced Tuesday.
Wilson becomes the Yellowjackets' second two-time Academic All-America selection as she earned first-team honors last season. She is Superior's seventh overall selection, joining women's basketball's Eva Reinertsen (first team in 2020 and second team in 2019) and Sally Linzmeier (second team in 2015), men's soccer's Eric Watson (second in 2019) and baseball's Braeden Barr (third team in 2019).
The 36-member women's team has a 3.92 average GPA. Wilson is one of six repeat selections on this year's team, including Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year Jenn Rennich of Westfield State. Elizabeth White (Case Western Reserve), Ava Gillikin (MIT), Sarah Campbell (Wartburg), Anika Washburn (Case Western Reserve) and Karenna Groff (MIT) are the others.
The College Sports Communicators (formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom, separately recognizing women's soccer student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be eligible for nomination consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and be a starter or key contributor on their respective team.
Wilson, a Business Administration major with a Marketing concentration boasting a 3.94 GPA, became Superior's all-time leader in career goals with 42 in 48 games and earned her third All-UMAC honor, finishing the year with 13 goals and 10 assists in 16 matches. She also earned United Soccer Coaches all-region third-team honors in 2022.
The Yellowjackets won their second consecutive UMAC championship in 2022, advancing to the NCAA tournament first round for the second straight year and finished 15-4-4 overall.
