Box Score ST. PETER, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's tennis team opened the season at the 2022 ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday.
 
Junior 
Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) won his first-round match in the ITA singles draw over Caleb Hammerlinck of Central, 6-4, 6-1. Zacharias then fell to top-seeded John Zakowski from UW-Whitewater in the second round by a 6-0, 6-1 count.
 
Freshman 
Igor Guetten Chaves (Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil/Colégio Adventista) dropped his singles match, 7-5, 6-2, to Ivan Burt-Smith of Coe.
 
Freshman 
Ren Kurachi (Yokohama, Japan/Yokosuka Gakuin) lost to Bethany Lutheran's Marcos Borobia, 6-1, 6-3.
 
Senior 
Andre Luiz de Melo Guedes (Brasilia, Brazil/Centro de Ensino Médio Paulo Freire) lost, 6-1, 6-2, to sixth-seeded Luke Van Donslear from Whitewater.
 
In Midwest Open singles play, 
Vitor Sakakibara (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Saber) fell to Ricky Portilla of Luther, 8-3. Also in the Midwest Open, 
Mateus Miranda Silvestreadvanced past Northwestern's Eli Henderson by default before falling, 8-7 (10-8) to E.J. Hietala from Saint Mary's.
 
In the Yellowjackets' only doubles contest of the day in the ITA draw, Luiz de Melo Guedes and Kurachi won by default over Steven Benoy and Diego Mosquera from UW-Stevens Point.
