SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field team hosted the Third Annual Maday Classic at the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse Saturday, which also was host to the 'Jackets' Alumni Day. In a strong field of competitors, the Yellowjackets were able to secure three gold medals and fare well against the competition.

Securing the first gold medal for UWS was
Michael Butterfield (Bovey, Minn./Greenway), who finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:52.98, nearly 50 seconds faster than the next runner.

The quartet of
Edward Hakanson (Foxboro, Wis./Superior Senior),
Jordan Goldfine (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior),
Bryce Boldt (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) and
Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) claimed the top spot in the 4x200 meter relay. Placing third for the 'Jackets in the relay was the squad of
Marshall Swanson (Ashland, Wis./Ashland),
Jason Thomas (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior),
Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) and
Isaac Hanson (Hayward, Wis./Hayward).

Earning the final first place finish on the afternoon for UWS was
Ben Babcock (Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth Area), who finished the long jump with a mark of 6.52 meters.
Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) (6.15 meters) and
Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) (6.12 meters) finished in third and fourth place, respectively.

Meet Notes
- Schorr finished third in the 60-meter dash after clocking a time of 7.20.
- Also competing in the 200-meter dash, Westimayer finished with a time of 23.24 good for fourth place.
- Iain Matheson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) (53.14), Bryce Boldt (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) (53.90) and Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) (54.45) finished in second through fourth place in the 400-meter dash.
- Finishing the mile race in fourth place with a 4:33.29 was Zach Reese (Zimmerman, Minn./Spectrum), who was tailed by David Collins (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) who clocked a 4:35.47.
- Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) (16:50.83), Cale Newby (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) (17:32.30) and Dominick Meisner (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) (18:43.54) claimed third, fourth, and fifth place in the 5,000-meter race, respectively.
- In the shot put, Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) heaved a mark of 15 meters, landing him in fourth place. He also competed in the weight throw, finishing with a mark of 16.05 meters for a fifth-place finish.

The Yellowjackets are back in action Saturday as they take part in the Gene Glader Classic. Hosted by Bethel, the events will begin at 10 a.m. inside the Sports and Recreation Center.
