AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Yellowjacket baseball team faced Dickinson in doubleheader action Thursday at Lake Myrtle Sports Park. Once the Red Devils got an early one-two-three inning from game one, they scored right away and set the tone for both contests. They would go on and roll past UWS by 7-0 and 10-1 decisions.
Offensive production and timely hitting from the Yellowjackets has been hard to come by over their last few games, and the Red Devils took advantage in both games.
Game One Notes
- Dickinson put up an early four-spot on Yellowjacket starter Gio Basile (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North), pitching just 1.1 innings while allowing six hits and five runs. He would be tagged with the loss.
- The Red Devils turned to their ace in Koll Peichel, who picked up his fourth consecutive win. He would pitch a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out nine.
- Dylan Posencheg for Dickinson drilled an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning, scoring their fifth run of the game.
- Miles Kay (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) came in relief for Basile and did a fine job limiting damage. He pitched 3.2 innings, surrendering three hits and one run. In the process, Kay picked up his first collegiate strikeout.
- Two more runs were scored by the Red Devils, coming in the fifth and sixth innings.
- Dawson Rannow (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) pitched an inning for the 'Jackets, allowing the final run for Dickinson.
Game Two Notes
- UW-Superior turned to Owen Santiago (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) to toe the rubber in game two. He threw a one-two-three first inning, but the Red Devils would tag him for two runs. Santiago received the loss in the contest.
- Freshman Will Czech (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) received the first start of his Yellowjacket career as a designated hitter. On the third pitch he saw, he would rope a double down the left field line, picking up his first collegiate hit.
- Santiago was relieved by Ethan Coady (Toronto, Ontario/Etobicoke School of the Arts), who got through 0.2 innings of work before Maxton Howell (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) saw action on the hill.
- The top of the fourth inning saw the Red Devils score six runs, capping their scoring in the game.
- UWS picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth, as Czech singled to center field driving in Tanner Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area), who singled through the left side to begin the inning.
- Dickinson's Nathan Weisoly picked up the victory in three innings of work. He allowed just two hits while striking out five.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Friday against Stockton. First pitch at Lake Myrtle Sports Park is set for a 12:30 p.m. start in Auburndale.
