SAINT PAUL, Minn. – It's a bit of a strange week for the Yellowjacket men's track and field team. Due to facility confines, Macalester College split their Rider/Bolstorff Invitational. With the bulk of the meet scheduled for Saturday, where most of the Yellowjackets will compete, two events were scheduled for Thursday afternoon to take advantage of space and more ideal temperatures.
Â
The events – the 5,000 meter run and he hammer throw.
Â
No runners took part for the Yellowjacket men Thursday, but the throwers were out in force. And once again, this group delivered.
All three Yellowjacket throwers placed in the top ten.
Â
Freshman
Bo Waletzko (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) finished ninth Thursday, hitting a mark of 40.26 meters. Just ahead of Waletzko was freshman
Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah), who finished in sixth place with a heave of 42.05 meters.
Â
As good as those finishes were, however, the day belonged to senior
Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern). Consistently the throwing leader for the Yellowjackets, Ohman had a monster day Thursday, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 52.61 meters. Ohman won the event by nearly two full meters. His monster throw came on his final attempt.
Â
Ohman's throw, which established a new personal record, pushed him up the NCAA leaderboard, where he now sits 59th among all NCAA Division III throwers in the hammer.
Â
The full Yellowjacket team will return to St. Paul for the second day of the Rider Bolstorff Invitational Saturday, April 27. Events will begin at 10 a.m.
