SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's tennis team was in exhibition mode Wednesday, as it hosted NCAA Division II Minnesota Duluth at the Yellowjacket Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Â
Because it was an exhibition, the teams didn't have to play according to the new scoring system instituted by the NCAA and the ITA, and instead played a full slate of 12 matches – four in doubles and eight in singles.
And the Yellowjackets had a very strong showing on the day. Trailing 3-1 after doubles play, the Yellowjackets dominated in early singles, winning matches in positions one through four. In the end, however, the Bulldogs overcame the deficit and defeated the Yellowjackets 7-5.
Â
In doubles action,
Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) and
Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) scored the only win for the Yellowjackets, defeating the UMD duo of Lily Nelson and Carly Chaney at No. 3 doubles, 6-4.Â
