BECKER, Minn. – The Yellowjacket women's golf team began the first of three rounds in pursuit of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship. Superior has had one of its best seasons in program history, shooting a trio of program-low rounds throughout the campaign.
Thursday the 'Jackets fared well after the first round, as all members of Superior's entrants ranked in the top ten individually. UWS maintains sole possession of second place with a 346, trailing Northwestern by just 11 strokes.
Round One Notes
- Makayla Ammerman (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson) led the 'Jackets with an 11-over 83, carding a pair of birdies on the day. She currently sits in a tie of second place with Northwestern's Bri Brandt
- Finishing with a 40/45 split was Olivia Weyenberg (Stacy, Minn./North Branch), who ranks fourth overall on the individual leaderboard.
- The Yellowjacket duo of Sophia Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and Abby Schintz (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) are tied for sixth individually after carding 89's on the day.
- Superior is rounded out by Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), shooting a 91.
UW-Superior returns for day two of the UMAC Championships Friday, with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. in Becker.
