WINTHROP, Minn. – All of the 2025 campaign's preparation came down to Saturday, when the Yellowjacket men's cross country team went to defend their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) crown at the Winthrop Golf Club.
Last season the 'Jackets finished with a score of 22 after garnering a 17 in 2023, just two points off a perfect score. In 2025 Superior bested themselves by one point, finishing four in the top five to claim their eighth conference championship with a score of 16, one away from a perfect 15.
Race Notes
- Pacing the entire conference as the individual champion was Dylan Uitto (Ashland, Wis./Ashland), crossing the line at 26:18.1, establishing a new PR. He was followed by Ben Plackner (Bovey, Minn./Greenway), who took home a 26:32.1 race time, also setting a new PR.
- Maverick Hoogland (Catawba, Wis./Phillips) and Dominick Meisner (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) ended their days with race times of 27:02.5 and 27:13.9, respectively. Meisner set a new high-water mark with his finish in the 8k.
- Tyler Smith (Ironwood, Mich./Ironwood) was the fifth Yellowjacket finisher, garnering a 27:56.3 for sixth place overall, setting a new personal record.
- Jayde Canfield (Prescott, Wis./Prescott) ended his day with a 28:26.3, finishing in 12th place, while Deryck Parduhn (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) took 13th overall after finishing in 28:37.6. Parduhn shaved almost a full three minutes off his previous 8k race time.
- Rounding out the Yellowjackets was Oleksandr Danylov (Kyiv, Ukraine/European Collegium), finishing in 30:30.1, shaving nearly 90 seconds off his 8k time.
Next for the Yellowjackets is the NCAA North Regional, hosted by UW-Eau Claire. The race is set to begin Saturday, Nov. 15 at 12 p.m. at Whitetail Golf Course.
