SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced that
Lynne Deadrick, head volleyball coach, is retiring.
Deadrick departs the Yellowjackets as the program's winningest coach, collecting a record of 355-369 across 23 seasons. During her tenure, Deadrick also aided the department in other areas, serving as both the senior woman administrator and assistant athletic director with oversight for athletics eligibility.
"Today I celebrate 38 years in coaching volleyball and feel blessed to be moving onto my next chapter," Deadrick said. "I would like to thank all those who I've had a chance to coach and work with for their support. The memories, relationships, and the fun times with all of you have been amazing. I'm so grateful to have received these opportunities to coach, which includes coaching my daughter Keely for four seasons. Finally I want to thank all my colleagues at UW-Superior for the last 23 years, I truly appreciate everyone's support and wish the volleyball program continued success moving forward."
Prior to her first season as Superior's head coach in 2003, Deadrick came from her alma mater of Vermilion Community College, where she coached the Ironwomen for 12 seasons. Fashioning a record of 127-192-2 for VCC, Deadrick guided her squad to a regional championship and a fifth-place finish in the national tournament in 1999.
In 2018, Deadrick would claim coach of the year honors from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) after finishing 20-12 overall. The regular season was highlighted by a straight-set victory over Northwestern, snapping the Eagles' 65-match regular season winning streak in UMAC play.
The 2024 campaign saw Deadrick post the most single-season victories of her career. She led the 'Jackets to an overall record of 24-8, which included a seven-match winning streak throughout October. During that span, they defeated No. 18-ranked Northwestern 3-2 to solidify a spot in the UMAC postseason tournament. Under the tutelage of Deadrick, Yellowjacket libero
Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) would be named the UMAC Player of the Year, UMAC Defensive Player of the Year, and AVCA Honorable Mention All American, along with leading NCAA Division III with 805 total digs.
"We are thankful for Coach Deadrick's tenure with Yellowjacket Athletics and her contributions to the volleyball program and our department," said UW-Superior athletic director Nick Bursik. "We wish her the best in retirement and her future endeavors."
A national search for the next Yellowjacket head volleyball coach will commence immediately.
