Yellowjackets Battle at Warren Bowlus Invitational, Stephens Leads with Strong 3K Finish

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's track and field team wrapped up a two-day showing at the Warren Bowlus Invitational, hosted by UW-Stout inside the Sports and Fitness Center.

Friday saw Riley Toivonen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) represent the Yellowjackets in the women's pentathlon, marking her debut in a stacked field dominated by Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) competitors. Toivonen opened with an 11.42-second race in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 12th overall. She followed that up with another 12th-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.26 meters. In the shot put, Toivonen recorded a mark of 5.90 meters for 13th place, but her day was unfortunately cut short after sustaining an injury in the high jump.

The Yellowjackets returned to action Saturday for the Warren Bowlus Open, turning in a strong set of performances.

Simone Stephens (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) delivered another solid outing, finishing 13th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:43.32.

Summer Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls) led the way in the long jump, placing seventh with a mark of 4.81 meters, while also narrowly missing the final in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.99-second run.
