SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced the newly launched Yellowjacket club men's soccer program has been accepted for membership in Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference (MASC).
Â
The club men's soccer program, which was announced as an addition to Yellowjacket athletics along with club men's hockey and varsity women's lacrosse in March, will begin play this fall.
Â
"We look forward to joining the Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference and competing against our regional peers," said UW-Superior director of athletics Nick Bursik. "The conference will provide our club program with a competitive conference season and opportunities for post-season play."
Â
The MASC is comprised of club men's soccer programs from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Membership to the MASC is restricted to accredited colleges and universities in the midwestern areas of the United States as designated by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
Â
The Yellowjackets will be part of the MASC's Northern Division. Other schools in the Northern Division include Marquette, Michigan Tech, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Northern Michigan, UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater.
Â
UW-Superior is in the midst of a national search to hire the program's first head coach, with an announcement expected to come shortly. The head coach will guide the club men's soccer team through a 10-game regular season conference schedule, beginning in September and going through mid-October. The top three teams in the MASC Northern Division would qualify to compete in the Midwest Alliance Cup in late October.
