SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced
Gus Nascimento's resignation as head club men's soccer coach. Nascimento is leaving UW-Superior to pursue another coaching opportunity.
"Being named the first head coach of the club soccer program at UW-Superior has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I want to thank Nick Bursik for trusting my vision and giving me this incredible opportunity." Nascimento said. "I would also like to thank the entire athletics department for all the support from day one. To my players – thank you for believing in me and buying into my ideas from the start. You've shaped this program into something that is built to last. I encourage all of you to trust the process and keep building this team for years to come. My time at UWS has taught me to never stop dreaming and to relentlessly pursue what you want in life, so thank you to the entire community for helping me do just that. I'll forever be a Yellowjacket!"
Nascimento was named the inaugural head coach of the club men's soccer program and led the team through its first season of competition in 2025. Prior to being named head coach, he served as an assistant coach under head coach Joe Mooney for two seasons. There, he aided the Yellowjackets to a pair of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) titles while advancing to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2024. Outside of coaching, Nascimento also served UW-Superior in the Office of Intercultural Student Success and the Registrar's Office.
"We are thankful for Coach Nascimento's leadership and dedication during the inaugural season of our club program," said Nick Bursik, UW-Superior Director of Athletics. "He played an important role in laying the foundation for the program, and we wish Gus and his family all the best in their future endeavors."
A national search for Nascimento's replacement is underway.
