WINONA, Minn. – The Yellowjacket baseball needed some good things to happen, and it received just what the doctor ordered Saturday in the form of an emotional doubleheader sweep of Northwestern. The wins, for the time being, lifted the Yellowjackets into the fourth and final playoff spot in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) entering the final week of the regular season.
Â
Less than 24 hours after the sweep, the 'Jackets were back on the field, playing a non-conference game on the road at Saint Mary's.
Â
Following the big wins Saturday, the Yellowjackets rested the bulk of their regulars Sunday, allowing some of the more unsung players the chance to shine.
And shine they did.
Â
Wylee Arro (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) had a big day at the plate and five pitchers combined to hold Saint Mary's to nine hits as the Yellowjackets defeated the Cardinals 8-6 at Max Molock Field Sunday afternoon.
The win was the third in a row for the Yellowjackets (18-17, 12-6 UMAC), who also moved back above the .500 mark.
Â
Arro went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs, while for the second game in a row
Tanner Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) drove in the go-ahead run in the Yellowjackets' final at bat.
