DULUTH, Minn. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field team finally got the chance to compete somewhat close to home Saturday, as it took part in the Bulldog Open, hosted by the University of Minnesota Duluth.
The meet featured Twin Ports foes Minnesota Duluth and St. Scholastica, as well as Canadian entrant Lakehead, in addition to the Yellowjackets. Saturday's meet served as the final tune up prior to next week's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
And as they have done all season, the Yellowjackets turned in a number of strong performances.
Senior
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) had another superlative day, coming home with a pair of first-place finishes. Foster won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.51 seconds. He narrowly edged out teammate
Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage), who placed second with a time of 15.68 seconds.
Foster was also victorious in his top event, the javelin throw, winning the event with a heave of 54.76 meters. Foster was over 20 meters longer than the event's runner-up.
Meet Notes
- Jesse Ortiz (Medford, Minn./Medford) earned a first place finish in the long jump, winning the event with a mark of 6.70 meters. Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior) also earned a top-five finish, placing fifth with a mark of 6.13 meters.
- The Yellowjackets occupied places two through six in the pole vault. Lynch led the way, clearing the bar at a height of 4.20 meters. Teammates Jason Thomas (Superior, Wis./Superior), Rene Sims and Isaac Hanson (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) tied for third place with a mark of 3.90 meters.
- Chancellor Davis placed third in the high jump with a height of 1.72 meters.
- Tucker Briggs (Superior, Wis./Superior) was the runner-up in the triple jump, earning a mark of 11.04 meters.
- In the shot put Bo Waletzko (Superior, Wis./Superior) placed fourth with a heave of 13.62 meters.
- Ethan Ashworth (Danbury, Wis./Webster) and Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) each placed in the top five in the javelin. Ashworth was second with a throw of 34.05 meters, while Wilhorn was fourth with a mark of 26.38 meters.
- Wilhorn had a pair of fourth-place finishes, reaching marks of 39.29 meters in the discus and 46.72 meters in the hammer throw.
- In the 100-meter dash, Schorr placed third with a time of 10.92 seconds, while Edward Hakanson (Foxboro, Wis./Superior) was fifth, coming in with a time of 11.13 seconds.
- Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) placed third in the 1,500 meter run, coming in with a time of 4:19.62. Dominick Meisner (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) wasn't far behind, placing fifth with a time of 4:22.54. Both times represented personal records.
- In total the Yellowjackets earned six personal records and had one season best Saturday.
Next up for the Yellowjackets is the 2025 UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The events are scheduled to start Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Cougar Track in Morris, Minnesota.
