MORRIS, Minn. – In 2015, UW-Superior's athletics department made the move from its home of more than a century, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
Since making that move, the Yellowjacket men's track and field team has been dominant.
The Yellowjacket men have won nine straight indoor conference championships, bringing home the prize every year with the exception of the first, which came in 2016. When the season shifts to outdoor competition, the Yellowjackets have been equally as dominant, having won seven of the last eight championships, including the last three.
That's 16 championships for the program over the last 10 years.
Friday marked the opening of the 2025 Outdoor UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and after the first day of competition, the Yellowjackets find themselves in a familiar position – sitting atop the leaderboard.
Paced by conference championship wins by
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) and
Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage), the Yellowjackets put up 105 points, enough for first place with nine of 20 events completed. The Yellowjackets lead second place Martin Luther by 20 points and third place Crown by 40 points.
Foster has enjoyed a banner year in 2025 and has been among the top javelin throwers in the nation. Foster earned 10 points for the Yellowjackets and the conference championship with a heave of 60.49 meters. The monster throw by Foster set a new personal record as well as a new meet record. The mark also vaulted Foster into nation's top 25 in the event, where he currently has the 21st best mark among all NCAA Division III throwers.
Lynch, meanwhile, picked up another conference championship in the pole vault – he also won the event in 2023 and 2024. Lynch cleared the bar at a height of 4.22 meters, putting him even with teammate Rene Sims, who set a new personal record and earned eight points for the Yellowjackets.
