Yellowjackets Travel to UChicago in NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Yellowjacket women's tennis team captured the program's first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) after defeating Greenville University 4-1 this past Saturday. With the win, Superior has won a program-high 10 straight matches and improve to an overall record of 21-5 on the campaign.
 
Furthermore, the Yellowjackets received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
 
Monday morning the NCAA aired its annual selection show, and the 'Jackets learned they are headed to Chicago, Ill., to compete in the regional hosted by the Maroons of UChicago, the defending national champions of NCAA Division III.
 
UWS will take on Hope College out of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Thursday, May 8 in the opening round. Thursday's match marks the first meeting between both squads. Also competing in the UChicago regional are North Central (Ill.), Coe and Gustavus Adolphus.
 
In doubles play the 'Jackets are led by the tandem of Elif Oezen and Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech), who boast a record of 6-0 this season. Singles play features Giulia Araujo De Barros (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Sabre) and Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) garner records of 19-3 and 18-3, respectively.
