SAINT PETER/BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Friday served as day one for the Yellowjacket women's tennis team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional and the Midwest Invite, all hosted at various locations within the Saint Peter and Bloomington areas.
Within the day, the Yellowjackets sent
Elif Oezen (Rheda-Wiedenbrueck, Germany/Einstein Gymnasium) and
Anouk Bluemm (Nuremberg, Germany/Wilhelm-Loege Gymnasium) to the ITA, while
Claudia Curtis (Hartland, Wis./Lake Mills),
Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale),
Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) and
Addison Fee (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) to the Midwest Invite.
Match Notes
- Oezen claimed a win on the day after facing Alyssa Sommerfeld of Concordia (Minn.), falling 6-2 before coming back to win 6-0 and 1-0 (12-10). Later she took on Karina Elvestrom of Gustavus Adolphus, falling 6-0, 6-0 over the host Gusties.
- Bluemm also claimed a pair of wins under her belt. She faced Ripon's Josie Rondestvedt and won 6-1, 6- before suffering a loss to UW-Whitewater's Gracie Ha 6-0, 6-0.
- Curtis faced Melanie Gravdahl of St. Catherine, winning 8-0 before taking on Shireen Durrani of the Cobbers and winning 8-4. Later she took on Grinnell's Addie Persian and came away with an 8-7(4) win.
- Jonas's day saw her defeat Edgewood's Lauren Krober 8-3 before dropping a close 8-7(5) decision to Hamline's Chloe Reyes.
- Drew faced off against the Warhawks' Julia Nill and fell 8-2, while Fee dropped an 8-6 loss to Claire Erdal of Saint Benedict.
Doubles play begins Saturday at both the ITA and the Midwest Invite.
