Men’s Tennis Rolls to Pair of Victories Saturday

RIPON, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Saturday, sweeping Concordia Chicago 7-0 before defeating Ripon 5-2 inside the Willmore Center.
 
Match One Notes
  • The Yellowjackets won all three doubles matches by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and 7-5, respectively.
  • Adam Culp (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township) defeated Collin Dickey 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Blake Haugen (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) handled his Cougar counterpart 6-3, 6-0.
  • Ezekiel Ribar (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter), competing at No. 4 singles, defeated his opponent in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1.
  • Marcos Parrilla fell 6-2 in the opener before rallying in the second game 7-6 (8-6) before winning in the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-6).
  • After winning his first game 7-6 (9-7) in the opening game, Preston McClimek (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) fell 6-1 before closing the deal with a 1-0 (10-7) win in the tiebreaker at No. 5 singles.
  • Justin Sauze (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) had a similar fate, winning 7-5 before falling 6-3 and taking down August Barnes 1-0 (10-8) in the tiebreaker at the sixth position.
 
Match Two Notes
  • Sharan Kanugovi (Bangalore, Karnataka/New Baldwin International School) and Mateo Abarca Pino (Riobamba, Ecuador/El Despertar) took down Caleb Sippel and Kyle Flook 7-5 at the top doubles spot while Adam Culp (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township) and Blake Haugen (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) handled their doubles match by a score of 6-1.
  • Superior fell at Nos. 1 and 2 singles spots but rallied in the third through sixth positions. Haugen won in the tiebreaker at No. 3 singles while Parrilla won 6-2, 6-0 against his Red Hawk opponent.
  • Ribar defeated Ryan Richter 6-2, 6-4 and McClimek won his bout 6-2, 6-2 at the sixth singles slot.
 
Superior returns to action Sunday as they take on Cornell (Iowa). The opening serve inside the John Powless Tennis Center is set for 12:15 p.m. in Madison.
