RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Wednesday afternoon the Yellowjacket baseball team took on the newly-reinstated UW-River Falls Falcons for the first time since the 2002 season. Early on both teams traded blows early until a five-run third inning for the Falcons put them out in front. The 'Jackets would chip away and come within one at 6-5, but UWRF countered with a pair in the eighth to defeat Superior 8-5 at FNBRF Field.

Game Notes
- The 'Jackets got on the scoreboard thanks to a solo shot from Will Czech (Anoka, Minn./Anoka), bringing the scoring to 1-0 in the top of the second.
- UWRF countered next inning, but an RBI single off the bat of Trey Sybrant (Saint Michael, Minn./Saint Michael-Albertville) drove in Noah Dagostino (Andover, Minn./Andover), who singled through the left side to lead 2-1.
- A five run, five hit inning gave UWRF the lead, but Owen Farrington (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake Area) clubbed an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. In the eighth, his two RBI single brought Superior's deficit to just one, as he plated Sybrant and Tanner Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater).
- The falcons utilized a pair of sacrifice flies to plate their seventh and eighth runs, ultimately leading to an 8-5 win.
- Dagostino went 3-5 with a run scored, while both Sybrant and Farrington went 2-4.
- Eight different Yellowjackets toed the rubber Wednesday, and three made their season debut in Evan Cichanofsky (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), Brian O'Dwyer (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Zach Threde (Volo, Ill./Wauconda).

The Yellowjackets are back in action Thursday as they open their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) series with North Central. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at the NBC Sports Complex in Superior.
