SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's tennis team opened the season Saturday, playing host to the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point. In a tough fight until the end, the Pointers emerged victorious with a close 4-3 victory over the Yellowjackets.
Match Notes
- The Pointers won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 positions. Keanu Lin (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) and Adam Culp (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township) won their bout at the top spot by a 6-4 decision.
- Yash Chhabra (Jaipur, Rajasthan/Sanskar School) claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Anthony Janes at No. 1 singles, while Enzo Nascimento (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Placidina) garnered his first collegiate victory over Dawson Froemming 6-3, 6-1 at the second singles slot.
- Culp fell at the third singles position 7-5, 6-0, while Lin (2-6, 6-4, 4-6) and Parrilla (0-6, 1-6) also dropped their matches at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively.
- Matt McBride (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West) also won his first collegiate match, winning game one 6-3 before dropping the second 2-6. In the tiebreaker, he came away with a 6-4 victory over Jacob Stinski.
The Yellowjackets hit the road next weekend to face Macalester and Wartburg. Action is set for Saturday at Hayden Tennis Courts in St. Paul, Minn.
