Box Score

The Yellowjackets traveled to the opposite side of the state with one thing on their minds.  That is to close out the season on a tear where nobody can stop them.  They took that step Friday afternoon as they edged the Inferno from Alverno College by a score of 2-1.

It took both teams until the second half to find any type of offensive rhythm as the score was 0-0 through the first 45 minutes.  The Yellowjackets dominated 11-2 in the shot department for the first half.

Alverno College struck first when midfielder Nava Moniriarani took a penalty kick and fired it past Yellowjacket goalkeeper Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) to make the score 1-0 in the 66th minute.  It was all Yellowjackets from there as they outshot the Inferno 25-3 for the rest of the match.  Whitney Zegarski (Osceola, Wis./Osceola) took over for the Yellowjackets when she took a shot from back deep that went over Inferno goalkeeper Samantha Robinson's head and into the net to knot the game at a goal a piece in the 73rd minute.

The Yellowjackets took a 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute when Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) took a corner kick that somehow curved from the wind and found it's way into the net.  The Yellowjackets ended up outshooting the Inferno 28-5 for the match.

Hatlewick made a save for the Yellowjackets while Robinson stopped 13 shots for Alverno College.

The Yellowjackets (6-12, 0-7 WIAC) will play the second game of their Southern Wisconsin road trip at UW-Platteville tomorrow (Oct. 27th).  Game time is at 12:00 p.m.
