Box Score
Warhawks 3, Yellowjackets 0
The good stuff is just beginning; crisp fall air, colorful leaves, birds chirping. Ahh! Sounds like the picture perfect afternoon for a soccer game. The beautiful fall weather is enough to give any team a monstorous start right off the bat. That was the case for UW-Whitewater as they netted three goals within the first 16:00 en route to a 3-0 shutout of the Yellowjackets.
The Warhawks turned on the jets from the start, peppering three shots before they found a scoring rhythm. Brianna Reid gave the Warhawks the boost they needed when she took a pass from Jenna Woodson about twenty yards in the middle of the field and fired a shot past Yellowjacket goalkeeper Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) for a 1-0 lead. The goal came at 9:15 into the contest. Carly Pottle made the score 2-0 Warhawks at 11:07 when she took a shot that went to the top left-hand corner of the net.
The wound continued to deepen for the Yellowjackets when Brianna Reid added her second goal of the contest to widen the Warhawk lead to 3-0 when she put home a shot in front of the net in the middle of the scrum. The goal came at 15:02 in the game. The Yellowjackets held their own for the balance of the contest. Despite the fact the Warhawks closed out the game with 23 shots, the Yellowjackets didn't budge one bit. The final shots for the game were in the Warhawks' favor at 28-3.
Hatlewick stopped 11 shots for the Yellowjackets while Emily Haeger and Jordan Myers teamed up to make two saves for UW-Whitewater.
The Yellowjackets (3-12-1, 0-6 WIAC) return to action tomorrow, October 20, when they take on Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wis. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
