Yellowjackets Third at UNW

The Yellowjacket men's golf team added an event to the fall schedule this week, competing at the University of Northwestern Invitational in the Twin Cities. The meet, which featured all nine teams from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference marked the second time this season that the entire league field was in action. The last time all teams met the Yellowjackets came home with a fourth place finish. Just two weeks later they improved one slot, finishing in a tie for third place.

Just like at the UMAC Preview, Crown College emerged victorious, easily winning the tournament by 10 strokes, finishing with a score of 300. Bethany Lutheran College was second, scoring 310, followed by the Yellowjackets and Minnesota Morris, who each scored 314. They finished one stroke ahead of fifth-place Martin Luther.

Thomas Messner of Crown was the men's medalist, finishing with a one-under par score of 70. Brenton Pennells of Bethany Lutheran was one stroke behind for second place.

The top Yellowjacket finisher was once again Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium), who was five strokes off the lead with a 75. Svensson was one of three golfers tied for fourth place. Luke Karakas (Green Bay, Wis./East) and Matthew McCoshen (Lino Lakes, Minn./White Bear Lake) were among four golfers tied for 13th place, shooting a 79.

The Yellowjackets will now be off for 12 days until their next event, the Mid Country Bank Classic in Waconia, Minnesota. Tee times on September 28 begin at 1:00 p.m.
