Yellowjacket Men Struggle at MLC Spring Invitational

Thursday morning marked the beginning of the spring season for the Yellowjacket men's golf team. The Yellowjackets team took on a new face in the spring, as Paul Eberhardt was named the new head coach. There is also several new golfers on the team that did not compete in the fall for the Yellowjackets.

Despite all the turnover, the Yellowjackets were looking to carry over their fall success, which included one tournament win and a fourth place finish in the UMAC Championships back in the beginning of October.

Due to the long layoff, the Yellowjackets as well as the other teams in the tournament were bound to show some signs of rust. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets showed a little more rust than the rest, as they finished with a team score of 340 to finish in ninth place. That score placed the Yellowjackets 27 strokes behind tournament victory Bethany Lutheran, who finished the day with a team score of 313.

Bethany Lutheran had the clean sweep of the trophies in this tournament, as Jordan Petzel shot a round of 73 to win the individual portion by two strokes over Caleb Johnson of Northwestern. Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) was not far behind the leaders, as he shot a round of 78 to finish in a tie for sixth place.

The Yellowjackets have a quick turnaround, as they head to Waconia, Minn. to take part in the Crown Dual. The meet will be held at the Island View Golf Club with the tee time set for 1:00 p.m.
