Svensson Carries Yellowjackets in Crown Dual

The Yellowjacket men's golf team was in action Friday as they headed to Waconia, Minn. to take on Crown College in the Crown Dual. It was a quick turnaround for the Yellowjackets, who were looking to get the bad taste out of their mouths following a ninth place finish at the MLC Spring Invitational.

Today went much better for the Yellowjackets, as they appeared to be shaking off some of the rust from the winter layoff. They finished with a team score of 335 to defeat Crown, who shot a 339 by four strokes. The score was five strokes better than the finish they had Thursday at the MLC Spring Invitational.

In the individual portion of the tournament, it was junior standout Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) who led the pack. Svenson shot a round of 77 to defeat Thomas Messner of Crown, who finished two strokes behind with a 79.

Not far behind Svensson and Messner was Owen Stauber (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown), who shot a round of 82 to finish third. Stauber was able to cut four strokes off of his score from the MLC Spring Invitational. Dan Kovar (Bismarck, N.D./St. Mary's Central) finished in a tie for fifth with a round of 87

The next tournament for the Yellowjackets is scheduled for Wedneday, April 20 when they travel across the bridge to take part in the CSS Triangular hosted by the College of St. Scholastica. The meet will be held at Lester Park Golf Course in Duluth, Minn.
