LAKEVILLE, Minn. (February 24) – The Yellowjackets played a nail-biting match late Saturday night against the Bethany Lutheran Vikings, winning by just one point to get the program's first ever win.
Match 1
The Yellowjackets struggled in their first match vs NAIA school Grand View University, falling 9-0. Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) and Petar Bulatovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Lee Academy) were able to push the Vikings to 6-4, 6-2 sets, but without victory.
The 'Jackets focused up and prepared for the second match of the night.
Match 2
Leonardo Paredes (Campinas, Brazil/Sao Paschoall) and Chad Hietala (Aurora, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) secured a doubles win from the No. 2 position, going 8-4 on the Vikings, while Grady Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) played well the No. 3 pair, getting an 8-3 win.
The three singles wins came down to No. 1 Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn./Becker) who won at 6-2, 6-4, followed by Hietala in slot No. 3 who beat Connor Dahl at 6-2, 6-3. Sherman was also a winner on the night, taking a 6-2, 6-3 win on Bethany Lutheran.
"Wins like these are always confidence boosters, we really showed grit tonight. It was great to see our first win!" Head coach Kolin Dean said.
