ST. PAUL, Minn. (May 2, 2018) – The Yellowjackets saw their season come to a close Wednesday night when they faced the Northwestern Eagles in the UMAC semifinal round.
Doubles
Grady Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) had a solid outing in doubles, but were unable to get the win, falling 8-4. Chad Hietala (Aurora, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and Leonardo Paredes (Campinas, Brazil/Sao Paschoall) got a set point in an 8-1 loss.
Singles
Harry Simpson (Derby, England/Derby Moor C.C.) saw a win in tiebreaking fashion, winning the first set 6-3, and eventually at the hard-fought tiebreaker 12-10. Hietala fell in two close sets at 6-4 and 6-3, while Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) was able to get a few points, but eventually fell at 6-2 and 6-3.
"You never want to go out like that." Head coach Kolin Dean said. "But, we fought hard like we have all season long, and I'm proud of our guys and what we've accomplished."

The Yellowjackets will aim to improve this summer and into the fall, and will compete for the top spot in the UMAC in 2019.
