Men’s Golf Finishes Third in UMAC Championship, Stanisich Fourth

BECKER, Minn. – The UW-Superior men's golf team finished third in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship, shooting a 27-over-par 315 in the final round at Pebble Creek Golf Club on Saturday.
 
The Yellowjackets finished with a championship total of 77-over 941, ending a three-year stretch as UMAC champions. Sophomore Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) carded a 5-over 77 in his final round for a four-place finish overall to pace UWS on the 6,872-yard course. Stanisich posted 14-over 230 for the tournament, eight strokes back.
 
Bethany Lutheran (301-317-316-934) claimed its first team conference championship since 2013 with the win, beating North Central by six shots. Superior was one stroke behind the Rams. The final round for Stanisich, who earned All-UMAC recognition, featured a birdie of the par-5 16th hole to go with 12 pars. 
 
Freshman Sam Frazee (Cook, Minn./North Woods) tied for ninth overall, closing with 80 for a championship score of 20-over 236. Frazee also birdied No. 16 and collected eight pars on Saturday. Classmate Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) finished with 81 for 23-over 239 in 15th place. Willard birdied the par-4 ninth and par-5 14th holes and also posted five pars in his final round. 
 
Senior Sam Albrecht (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) shot 85 on Saturday to finish at 28-over 244 in a tie for 18th place. Albrecht picked up a birdie on the par-3 12th hole. 
 
Sophomore Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) made the Yellowjackets biggest move of the day, climbing five spots on the leaderboard with a final-round 77. Burger tied for 25th overall with a birdie on 16 and 11 pars.
 
Brady Raph of Minnesota Morris fired a 2-under 70 to claim medalist honors by North Central's Ben Long.
