Yellowjackets Complete 13-Stroke Comeback, Win Fourth UMAC Men’s Golf Title

BECKER, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's golf team erased a 13-stroke deficit entering the final round to win the 2022 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship by two over Northwestern at Pebble Creek Golf Club on Saturday.
 
The Yellowjackets fired a 30-over-par 318 Saturday to claim their fourth league title in the last six seasons. UWS shot 330-311-318-959 to gave it the UMAC automatic qualification to the 2023 NCAA Division III men's golf championship, set for Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky., May 16-19.
 
Senior Charles Martin (Blainville, Quebec/École internationale Lucille-Teasdale) spearheaded the comeback on the final day with a 4-over 76 for the second-lowest round in the 39-player field. His card featured an eagle on the 395-yard, par-4 seventh hole and three birdies, helping Martin tie for third overall at 20-over par with 82-78-76-236.
 
Junior Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) posted a final-round 79 to finish sixth overall at 22-over 238. He shot nothing worse than bogey and dropped 11 pars. 
 
Sophomore Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) was ninth overall with 83 on Saturday for a 54-hole 27-over 243 total. He had nine pars in his round. 
 
Sophomore Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) shot 80, tying for 11th at 31-over 447, for the tournament. His round had 10 pars, including four on the last five holes. 
 
Junior Taylor Burger (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) tied for 14th overall at 34-over 250 for the week. He shot 87 Saturday with nine pars.
 
Brady Raph (5-over 221) of Minnesota Morris won individual medalist honors by eight strokes over Northwestern's Shane Seiffert. 
 
Crown finished third overall in the team standings at 119-over 983, followed by Bethany Lutheran (995), North Central (1,017), Minnesota Morris (1,038), Northland (1,090) and Martin Luther (1,092).
