Callaway Named UMAC Player of the Year Again; ‘Jackets Earn Four All-UMAC Honors

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Senior Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) has been named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season as the league announced its All-UMAC selections for women's tennis on Wednesday.
 
Callaway also earned All-UMAC First Team honors along with senior Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids Senior). Classmate Chiyono Owa (Tokyo, Japan/Otsuma Nakano Senior) was named to the second team while freshman Kaytlyn Syverson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) was an honorable-mention pick.
 
Callaway was 14-9 in singles on the year, including an 8-0 mark in UMAC play. She went 4-4 in doubles in the league and was 8-16 overall. 
 
She earned UMAC Player of the Week on Feb. 21.
 
Callaway holds the career record for singles victory at UWS with 33 and also has the best singles winning percentage in school history at .611.
 
Callaway finishes her career with the second most doubles wins at 24. 
 
Dulong picked up the second first-team selection of her career with the other coming in 2019. She was 7-2 overall in singles, going 7-1 in conference. She finished 8-4 in doubles with a 6-2 mark in league play.
 
She finished third on the career singles win list with 21 and second with a .553 winning percentage. Dulong is third in program history with 23 doubles wins with the third best doubles winning percentage all time at .548.
 
Owa earned first All-UMAC honor, going 7-15 overall in singles and 5-2 in the league. She was also 10-14 in doubles, including a 5-2 mark in the UMAC. Owa ranks tied for fifth in program history with 14 singles wins and seventh with 15 doubles wins. 
 
Syverson went 7-14 in singles action in her first season at UWS. She was 4-4 in conference. In doubles play, Syverson was 11-15 overall and 6-2 in the league.
 
The Yellowjackets finished 8-15 overall and 6-2 in the UMAC advancing to their first conference championship match as the No. 2 seed.
