Stanisich, Yellowjackets Win UW-Superior Fall Classic

SPOONER, Wis. -- Junior Cody Stanisich (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert Senior) carded a 6-over-par 77 for medalist honors at the UW-Superior Fall Classic, played at Spooner Golf Club on Wednesday.
 
Stanisich won the individual title by one stroke, leading the Yellowjackets to a 30-over 314 team score to win the tournament. Superior's second team was 11 shots off the lead at 41-over 325 on the 6,449-yard, par-71 course.
 
Stanisich posted one birdie each on the front and back of the course to go with nine pars. Sophomore Nate Burke (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) and junior Charles Martin (Blainville, Quebec/École internationale Lucille-Teasdale) tied for second, one shot off the pace. Burke birdied the par-4 ninth hole and came up with 11 pars, while Martin birdied the par-4 14th and had eight pars.
 
Sophomore Brayden Tyman (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) paced the Yellowjackets' second team in the event, tying for fifth at 8-over 79. Tyman began his round with a birdie on the par-4 first and tallied seven pars. 
 
Sophomore Conner Willard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) tied for seventh with 81 and junior T.J. Sitek (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) had 82 to tie for 10th to round out the scorers on the top team. 
 
Junior Bradley Stonnell (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary School), playing as an individual, shot 81 for a seventh-place tie. Playing his first round of the season, sophomore Matt Nault (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) turned in an 82. Myles Hektor (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and Nick Monroese shot 86 and 89 for 19th and 24th overall, respectively.
 
Bryce Wainio (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl) shot 81 to tie for seventh as part of the second team. Freshman Andrew Rude (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) shot 82 for a tie for 10th, Ian Bundy (Austin, Minn./Austin) shot 83 for a tie for 15th and Trey Shaw (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) shot 84, tying for 17th overall.
 
St. Scholastica was third in the team standings at 49-over 333 and Northland was fourth at 62-over 346.
 
UWS returns to action Sunday and Monday at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club.
