Nick Piazza Selected to Lead Women’s Soccer Program

SUPERIOR, Wis. – At the conclusion of a national search, the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics has announced the hiring of Nick Piazza as its new women's soccer coach Wednesday. He stands as the ninth head coach dating back to the 1993 season.

"I would like to thank Nick Bursik and the hiring committee for this incredible opportunity," Piazza said. "It means the world to me to be entrusted with a program that has been so influential in my coaching journey. I look forward to working with amazing student-athletes to help bring Yellowjacket women's soccer into its next chapter, and I can't wait to get started."

Piazza is certainly no stranger to UW-Superior, having been on staff as an assistant coach for nine total seasons. The 2024 season marked his sixth season with the Yellowjacket men's soccer team and his third with the women's program, assisting with all facets of the program's function.

A native of Fitchburg, Wis., Piazza played for two seasons at Madison College before enrolling at UW-Superior in 2016. That year, his efforts on the backline aided Superior to the program's first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference postseason championship, alongside their first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.

Following his graduation with a Bachelor's Degree in exercise science in 2017, Piazza embarked on his coaching career with the Yellowjacket men before serving as an assistant with the women's program in 2021. His work on staff has elevated UW-Superior to become staples in postseason play, claiming a slew of regular and postseason championships.

"We are thrilled to welcome Nick Piazza in his new role as our head women's soccer coach," Athletics Director Nick Bursik said. "Nick brings a deep passion for the game, a strong commitment to student-athlete development, and a vision that aligns with the direction of our program. We're excited to see how his leadership will elevate Yellowjacket women's soccer both on and off the field."

Piazza will assume his duties effective immediately.
