Men's Soccer Recruit: Hunter Leon

Men's Soccer Recruit Hunter Leon

The start of the 2012 men's soccer season may be about three months from getting underway, but that hasn't stopped Yellowjacket head coach Joe Mooney from continuing to add talent to his team.  Mooney announced that Hunter Leon is the 11th new commitment to his team's roster for next season.

Leon, 5-8 and 160 pounds is currently a senior at Esko High School and played his high school soccer for Cloquet-Esko-Carlton High School.  He played defender and midfielder for the Lumberjacks, and captained the team to the Minnesota State Tournament as Section 7A champions.  At the tournament Leon was named to the Wells Fargo Minnesota State All-Tournament Team.

Other honors from Leon's senior season include being named All-Lake Superior Conference first team, Minnesota All-State second team and to the Duluth News Tribune All-Area Team.  Further, Leon was named Player of the Game at the Minnesota Senior Class All-Star Game and was the Duluth News Tribune's Player of the Year.

As a junior with the Lumberjackets, Leon was All-Lake Superior Confernece first team, Minnesota All-State second team and a member of the Duluth News Tribunes All-Area Team.

"We're very excited to have Hunter joining us next year.  He's a player that can showcase the potential that our area has for producing good soccer players.  I'm looking forward to working with Hunter, especially because I know he's a very coachable player," Mooney said.  "He's had great preparation at the club level with Gitchi Gummi and with Coach (Archie) Clark at C-E-C.  It's obvious from watching him play in both environments that he has a high soccer IQ."

When asked about UW-Superior, Leon said, "I am excited about the soccer program and the potential it has in the future.  Beyond that, it's a great school and it's close to home.  I'm looking forward to the entire college experience and the chance to play four more years."
