SUPERIOR, Wis. (January 28, 2018) – The Yellowjackets took part in their inaugural match this morning, battling the Concordia Cobbers in Lydia Thering Fieldhouse. There were standouts in both the doubles and singles matches, but the Yellowjackets came up short.

Doubles

The No. 1 combination of Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn./Becker) and Leonardo Paredes (Campinas, Brazil/Sao Paschoall) recorded a 8-3 set loss to the Cobbers, but not without some fight. The No. 3 team Petar Bulatovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Lee Academy) and Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) also pushed the Cobbers to an 8-3 set, while the No. 3 team, Grady Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) and Harry Simpson (Derby, England/Derby Moor C.C.), ended up with an 8-1 decision.

Singles

Borst continued to push in the singles match, but was unable to get the point, falling 6-3, 6-0. A bright spot for the Yellowjackets was that all of the matchups saw at least one game sway Superior's way, including five matchups with three games won.

Superior will have a week of practice before their next match; they host the Saint Mary's University Cardinal next Saturday, first serve is set for 3 p.m.
