Yellowjackets Post Strong Showing in Final Regular-Season Meet

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Sophomore Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) won the 60-meter hurdles for the second consecutive meet and was third in the high jump as the UW-Superior women's track and field team competed in the second Upper Midwest Athletic Conference meet of the season Saturday at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse.
 
DeQuevedo ran 10.49, besting the field by more than a half second in the 60 hurdles, while bettering her time from the first meet of the year by two tenths of a second. Her high jump mark of 1.40 meters (four feet, seven inches) was just four inches from the top spot in that event.
 
Freshman Brooke Koenen (Superior, Wis./Senior Senior) was third in the long jump with a leap of 4.07 meters (13 feet, 4.25 inches) on her third attempt. 
 
Sophomore Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern) finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 12.89 meters (42 feet, 3.5 inches), while junior Maddie Dreyer (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) was sixth with a toss of 10.69 meters (35 feet, one inch). Hughlett and Dreyer were fourth and seventh in the shot put, respectively with marks of 9.68 meters (31 feet, 9.25 inches) and 6.75 meters (26 feet, 7.25 inches).
 
Junior Nanako Hara (Nishitokyo, Japan/International Christian University) and sophomore Kennedy Robelia (Durand, Wis./Durand) ran third and fourth in the 5,000 meters in times of 21:57.24 and 22:17.18.
 
Freshman Claudia Androsky (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and sophomore Jess Newman (Wanamingo, Minn./Pine Island) performed well in the 60 hurdles, as well. Androsky was sixth in 12.11 and Newman was seventh in 13.08.
 
Freshman Matti Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) was seventh in the mile run in 6:04.59. In the 200 meters, Koenen finished eighth in a time of 31.70 while Newman and Androsky were 13th and 14th, respectively in 32.80 and 32.84. 
 
The Yellowjackets will now gear up for the UMAC championships, which are slated for Feb. 26 at Thering Fieldhouse.
