Women’s Track and Field Fourth at UW-La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's track and field team opened the outdoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Great River Rust Buster hosted by UW-La Crosse at the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex on Saturday.
 
The Yellowjackets scored 24 points on the day, one more than UMAC foe Martin Luther. The host Eagles won the team title with 170 points.
 
Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) posted Superior's top finish of the day – third place – in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters (five feet, one inch). LeAnn Torgerson (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 26.80.
 
Torgerson was 13th in the 100-meter preliminary round, running 13.25, just ahead of teammate Brooke Koenen (Superior, Wis./Senior Senior) in 14th in 13.26.
 
DeQuevedo was also 12th in the 200 meters in 28.01, while Koenen, Jess Newman (Wanamingo, Minn./Pine Island) and Claudia Androsky (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) were 20th, 21st and 22nd in 32.72, 33.11 and 33.32, respectively.
 
Nanako Hara (Nishitokyo, Japan/International Christian University) placed fifth in the 1,500 meters in 5:33.54. Androsky (20.34, sixth) and Newman (21.64, seventh) also had strong finishes in the 100-meter hurdles.
 
Matti Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kennedy Robelia (Durand, Wis./Durand) were seventh and eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13:29.05 and 14:44.55.
 
Torgerson finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 4.28 meters (14 feet, one-half inch) on her sixth attempt. Koenen was seventh in 3.82 meters (12 feet, 6.5 inches). 
 
Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern) finished 17th in the shot put with a mark of 8.51 meters (27 feet, 11 inches). She was also 14th in he discus with a toss of 21.61 meters (70 feet, 11 inches), ahead of Maddie Dreyer (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) in 15th. Dreyer had a mark of 19.46 meters (63 feet, 10 inches).
 
The two flipped positions in the hammer throw with Dreyer finishing ahead of Hughlett. Dreyer's distance of 36.79 meters (120 feet, eight inches) was good for 15th place. Hughlett came up with 35.14 meters (115 feet, three inches) for 16th place.
 
Superior returns to action at the Saint John's Invitational April 2 at noon.
