MANKATO, Minn. – The UW-Superior women's track and field team finished sixth overall in the Minnesota State Invitational at Myers Field House on Friday.
The Yellowjackets scored one point in the team standings in a meet that featured Division II institutions Minnesota State, Winona State, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State as well as Division III Gustavus Adolphus. The host Mavericks won with 274.5 points while Winona State was second with 104 points.
Junior thrower
Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern) earned Superior's point with an eighth-place finish in the weight throw. Hughlett registered a mark of 14.09 meters with her sixth and final throw of the event.
UWS also posted two UMAC-leading finishes on the day. Senior
Nicole Koski (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) placed 14th overall in the 3,000 meters in a time of 11:37.86 and junior
Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) was 13th overall in the 60-meter hurdles prelims in 10.03, another time that is tops in the conference.
Hughlett was also 10th overall in the shot put with a top mark of 9.98 meters while freshman
Emma Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Falls) and
Kenzie Tuura (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) were 16th (8.31 meters) and 18th (7.26 meters), respectively. Tuura and Erickson were also 13th and 14th in the weight throw with marks of 10.62 and 9.71 meters.
Sophomore
Brooke Koenen (Superior, Wis./Senior Senior) finished 20th in the long jump with a leap of 4.02 meters.
Superior returns to action next Saturday hosting the Twin Ports Open at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse. Events are set to get underway at 11 a.m.
