SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's track and field team won two events in the Twin Ports Open at the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Junior
Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern) claimed the weight throw and classmate
Jess Newman (Wanamingo, Minn./Pine Island) took the 200-meter hurdles as the Yellowjackets hosted the first of two home meets on the season.
Hughlett, the reigning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, set a personal best in the event with a mark of 14.92 meters. Newman's time of 36.44 also represented a personal best in that event. Newman topped freshman teammate
Kenzy Kreuzer (Stoddard, Wis./De Soto), who ran second in 37.31, for the title.
Kreuzer was also fourth in 60-meter hurdles in 11.62 with Newman finishing fifth in the race in 11.87. She was sixth in the 60-meter dash, as well, in 9.43.
Freshman
Jeanna Scanlon (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 3.61 meters. Sophomore
Matti Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) placed sixth in the 400 meters in 1:12.19 and eighth in the 200 meters in 32.11.
Freshman
Meagan Berg (Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk) lead a group of five Yellowjackets in the mile run, placing eighth in 6:09.03. Scanlon was 10th in 6:31.62, followed by
Kennedy Robelia (Durand, Wis./Durand) in 11th,
Halle Barker (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) in 12th and
Tea Boerner (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna Senior) in 13th. The final three in the race ran times of 6:32.24, 6:43.29 and 6:48.32, respectively.
The Yellowjackets return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Warren Bowlus Open at UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse.
