Superior Third through Day 1 of UMAC Indoor Championships

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's track and field team sits in third place following the first day of the 2022 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference indoor championships at Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse on Friday.
 
The Yellowjackets tallied 41 on day and are 70 behind Minnesota Morris for the meet lead going into the final day of action on Saturday.
 
Junior Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern) posted Superior's top finish in an event final on Friday, finishing second overall in the weight throw with a personal-record distance of 15.52 meters. Freshmen Emma Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Falls) and Kenzie Tuura (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) also recorded personal bests with marks of 11.91 meters and 11.48 meters to finish fourth and sixth, respectively.
 
Junior Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) ran fourth in the 400-meter dash with a PR of 1:05.29. She also scored sixth-place points in the long jump with a mark of 4.34 meters. Sophomore Jeanna Scanlon (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) was eighth in that event with an effort of 4.24 meters, as well.
 
Junior Kennedy Robelia (Durand, Wis./Durand) clocked 21:41.55 in the 5,000 meters for fifth place. Frehman Tea Boerner (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna Senior) finished seventh in 22:37.97.
 
UWS turned in fourth-place times in both the 4x200-meter and distance-medley relays. The 4x200 squad comprised of Sophomore Brooke Koenen (Superior, Wis./Senior Senior), junior Jess Newman (Wanamingo, Minn./Pine Island), freshman Kenzy Kreuzer (Stoddard, Wis./De Soto) and junior Chloe Higgins (Lakeland, Fla./Superior Senior) ran 2:05.07. The DMR team of Scanlon, sophomore Matti Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing), Boerner and Robelia ran 15:34.98.
 
Higgins also ran 8.34 seconds in the 60-meter dash prelims to earn the top qualifying position for the final that will be contested at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday.
 
Minnesota Morris leads the meet with 111 points through eight scored events while Bethany Lutheran is second with 86. Crown (24), Northwestern (19) and North Central (14) round out the team standings. 
 
The final day of the championships begins at 11 a.m., on Saturday.
