ATLANTA, Ga. – Coming on the heels of a successful indoor season, the Yellowjacket women's track and field team took things outdoors Friday, using the spring break week to head south and compete at the Emory University Spring Break Classic.
Â
A portion of the Yellowjacket women's team got its season started in the warm temperatures of Georgia Friday, with some strong performances being turned in.
Â
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was
Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern). The junior from Maple placed second in the hammer throw with a heave of 45.68 meters. The mark was a new personal record for Hughlett, beating her previous best by almost two meters.
Â
On the track,
Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) came up just shy of a personal record in the 200-meter dash, as she crossed the line with a time of 28.16 seconds. Her PR of 28.06 seconds came almost a year ago to the day at UW-La Crosse.
Â
A pair of Yellowjackets earned top-20 finishes in the 400-meter hurdles.
Jess Newman (Wanamingo, Minn./Pine Island) came across the line with a time of 1:24.47, about two seconds shy of her personal record. Coming in right behind Newman was freshman
