RIPON, Wis. --Â Freshman thrower
Gage Stankiewicz (Esko, Minn./Esko) threw 16.07 meters to finish second in the shot put for the UW-Superior men's indoor track and field team at the Ripon Final Qualifier and Multi at the Willmore Center on Saturday.

Stankiewicz bettered his personal record in the event on his second attempt. The mark puts the UMAC indoor Rookie of the Year in contention to advance to the NCAA championship in Winston-Salem, N.C., on March 11-12 at JDL Fast Track. Stankiewicz will learn his NCAA fate when the field is announced Sunday.

Derrick Moe (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior) ran second in the 3,000 meters in 8:56.15 in a field of seven.Â

Michael Butterfield (Bovey, Minn./Greenway) was second in the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:11.31 to knock more than 37 seconds off of his personal record.

Tyler Finger (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) clocked a third-place time of 4:24.04 in the mile for a personal record in the race.Â

David Collins (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) bettered his personal record in the 800 meters to 2:02.18 with a six-place finish.

Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) finished ninth overall in the 200 meters in 23.18.
