Men’s Track and Field Posts 13 Top-10 Finishes in Eagle Open

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The UW-Superior men's track and field team collected 13 top-10 finishes in the Eagle Open at UW-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Sports Complex on Friday. 
 
Senior Tyler Finger (Clintonville, Wis./Clintonville) finished second in the 1,500-meter run, while freshman Michael Butterfield (Bovey, Minn./Greenway) was runner up the 5,000 meters in 15:44.43 to lead the Yellowjackets' effort in the non-scoring meet.
 
Sophomore Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) also finished third in the javelin throw with a toss of 44.35 meters.
 
Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) was fifth behind Butterfield in the 5,000 in a time of 18:03.01 and sophomore David Collins (Ironwood, Mich./Luther L. Wright) was sixth in the 1,500 meters in 4:13.75 in back of Finger.
 
Sophomore Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) placed seventh in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 22.61. Freshman Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) ran ninth in 22.74. The 4x100-meter relay team of Schorr, Iain Matheson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior), Steven Pearson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and Westimayer was third in that race in 43.61.
 
Foster finished ninth in the high jump with a leap of 1.81 meters and Schorr was ninth in the long jump in 6.05 meters.
 
Gage Stankiewicz (Esko, Minn./Esko) was eighth in the discus throw in 46.05 meters and Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) finished 10th overall in the shot put at 14.02 meters.
 
The Yellowjackets are back in action at the North Central Combined Events Qualifier in Naperville, Ill., on Monday and Tuesday. Competition both days begins at 11 a.m.
