MORRIS, Minn. -- The UW-Superior women's track and field team is tied for second through the first day of the 2022 UMAC outdoor championship at Cougar Track.
The Yellowjackets scored 71 points on the day and are tied with Martin Luther. Meet host Minnesota Morris leads the field with 95 total points.
Senior
LeAnn Gow (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) won the 200-meter dash in 25.78 to pick up the Superior's only event victory of the day.
Alexxa DeQuevedo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley) was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.72 with
Jess Newman (Wanamingo, Minn./Pine Island),
Matti Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and
Kenzy Kreuzer (Stoddard, Wis./De Soto) finishing fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in times of 1:23.09, 1:23.92 and 1:28.86. DeQuevedo was also seventh behind Gow in the 200 in 27.90.
The 'Jackets went 2-3-7 in the hammer throw as
Kasha Hughlett (Maple, Wis./Northwestern),
Emma Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Falls) and
Kenzie Tuura (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) threw 44.37 meters, 40.34 meters and 31.26 meters.
Nicole Koski (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) was third in the 300-meter steeplechase in 12:57.69 while Kreuzer was third in the pole vault at 2.10 meters.
Gow and DeQuevedo also finished fifth in the long jump and pole vault, respectively, with marks of 4.62 meters and 28.61 meters.
Bethany Lutheran sits fourth in the team standings with 57 points, followed by Crown (21), Northwestern (11) and North Central (five).
The final day of action begins at 11 a.m., on Saturday.
