Box Score 2 MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's tennis team hit the road for the first time in the new season, facing off against a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponents in UW-Stevens Point and host UW-Stout. In the opening match for Superior, they would fall 5-2 to the Pointers before coming back and ending the day on a high note, sweeping the Blue Devils 7-0.
Match One Notes
- Doubles play saw Anouk Bluemm (Nuremberg, Germany/Wilhelm-Loege Gymnasium) and Andreina Tejada (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) team up to face Ellie Aitken and Tristin Jantz, ultimately falling 6-3 at the top spot.
- Claudia Curtis (Hartland, Wis./Lake Mills) and Elif Oezen (Rheda-Wiedenbrueck, Germany/Einstein Gymnasium) fell 6-2 to their Pointer counterparts at No. 2 doubles before Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) and Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) garnered a 6-4 win at the third doubles position.
- The two lone winners came at Nos. 4-5, where Curtis and Jonas utilized a tiebreaker to their advantage and emerged victorious.
- Curtis lost 6-7 (4-7) in the first game before rallying back to a 7-5, 1-0 (10-1) win against Aitken.
- Jonas won 7-5 in the first before falling 6-7 (4-7) but powered through the third after a 1-0 (10-5) victory over Brooklynn Steier.
Match Two Notes
- The Yellowjackets rebounded well facing their second-of-two opponents. Curtis and Oezen won their doubles bout 6-1 while Jonas and Addison Fee (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) claimed a 6-2 victory against Lindsay Leuzinger and Aspen Johnson in the third position.
- Tejada won at the top spot following a lengthy bout with Molly Garber. She won 6-1 before dropping a 7-5 game but came back in the tiebreaker to win 10-6.
- Bluemm (6-1, 6-0), Oezen (6-0, 6-1) and Curtis (6-0, 6-0) each won their bouts at the Nos. 2-4 positions, respectively.
- Jonas took down Gretchen Murphy 6-1, 6-2 at the fifth spot while Drew won her match with Lexie Stein 6-4, 6-2 at the sixth position.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Thursday as they enter the ITA Midwest Regional, which is hosted by Gustavus Adolphus.
